Home Teams: San Antonio Spurs (NBA)
The predecessor of the Frost Bank Center was the cavernous (and awesomely named) Alamodome, a multipurpose facility that could hold up to 40,000 fans, as it did when the San Antonio Spurs appeared in the 1999 NBA Finals (and won their first NBA championship). However, because the Alamodome had been built with American football in mind, it didn’t provide ideal viewing conditions for basketball, meaning that the Spurs were never really too happy with the place. The Frost Bank Center opened in 2002 to broad acclaim, and the Spurs seemed to take to it immediately, bringing four more NBA Championships home to San Antonio in the ensuing years. Currently, the Frost Bank Center hosts all Spurs regular season and playoff home games as well as a full calendar of events including concerts, exhibitions, and other sporting competitions. There are many different dining options on site, with concessions offering quick savory bites to fancier spots offering gourmet food and beverages. Visitors can also look for team and event merchandise at the Frost Bank Center’s shops and kiosks.
