Billy Talent are a Canadian rock band from Mississauga, Ontario, formed in 1993 by vocalist Benjamin Kowalewicz, guitarist Ian D'Sa, bassist Jonathan Gallant, and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk — all of whom met at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School. Originally known as Pezz, they released debut album Watoosh! independently in 1999 before changing their name to Billy Talent, inspired by the guitarist "Billy Tallent" in Michael Turner's novel Hard Core Logo. Signing with Atlantic Records and Warner Music Canada in 2002, their self-titled debut (2003), produced by Gavin Brown, went quadruple platinum in Canada and earned three Juno Awards. Billy Talent II (2006) and Billy Talent III (2009) both topped the Canadian Albums chart and went multi-platinum, followed by Dead Silence (2012) and Afraid of Heights (2016). Solowoniuk has been on hiatus since 2016 due to multiple sclerosis, with Jordan Hastings serving as drummer. The band has sold nearly 3 million albums internationally, won seven Juno Awards, and released their sixth album Crisis of Faith in 2022. In January 2026 they announced a 20th anniversary tour for Billy Talent II.
