About Cruz Azul

Cruz Azul is a professional football club based in Mexico City, Mexico, competing in Liga MX, the top tier of Mexican football. Founded on March 22, 1927, by workers of the Cooperativa La Cruz Azul cement factory in Jasso, Hidalgo, the club's roots in the working class are deeply embedded in its identity. Known as La Máquina Celeste (The Sky Blue Machine), Cruz Azul turned professional and relocated to Mexico City in 1971. The club has won nine Liga MX championships, including three consecutive titles from 1971 to 1973, and has claimed the CONCACAF Champions League six times, the second most in the competition's history. Cruz Azul ended a memorable 23-year title drought by winning the Liga MX championship in 2021 and is considered one of the Big Four clubs in Mexican football.
