About Ministry

Ministry is an American industrial metal band founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1981 by producer, singer, and instrumentalist Al Jourgensen. Originally a synth-pop outfit, the band evolved into one of the pioneers of industrial rock and industrial metal in the late 1980s. The lineup has changed frequently over the years, with Jourgensen remaining the sole consistent member. Ministry achieved commercial success with the albums The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste (1989), and Psalm 69 (1992), the latter of which was certified platinum. Known for aggressive, politically charged music and intense live performances, the band's well-known songs include "Jesus Built My Hotrod," "Just One Fix," and "Thieves." Despite several breakups and reunions over the decades, Ministry has remained active, releasing their most recent studio album, Hopiumforthemasses, in 2024.
