Capacity: 9,000
Opened: January 25, 1979
In 1977, the City of Cedar Rapids spent about $7 million to build what was then known as the Five Seasons Center. Today, many years later, the center is known as the Alliant Energy Powerhouse and still looks as beautiful as ever. Before it got its new name, it was known as the U.S. Cellular Center from the 2000s until 2020, so you might still see that name on posters or signposts.
The venue is in downtown Cedar Rapids, and since it was opened in 1979, it has been a hub for live entertainment in the city. The Powerhouse has hosted family shows, music concerts, comedy events, and different sporting events for thousands of live spectators to enjoy.
Aside from the 9,000-capacity hall, the Alliant Energy Powerhouse also has adjoining spaces for hosting banquets, conventions, and other events. The City of Cedar Rapids spent $1 million on building the multi-level parking facility beside the venue. There is also the DoubleTree Hotel above the arena. Irrespective of where you are traveling from, this venue has all it takes to cater to your needs when you come in for an event.
The first concert in the Alliant Energy Powerhouse was for the English Rock band Yes on April 25, 1979. Since then, renowned entertainers like Elton John, The Grateful Dead, Kenny Rogers, Kid Rock, Metallica, KISS, and many others have performed on big stages in this venue.
These are some of the exciting events scheduled to be held in this venue in 2024.
