Since its setup along the popularly known Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, Monte do Gozo has become a much-visited center for pilgrims, tourists, music fanatics, and regular visitors. Sitting majestically just outside Santiago de Compostela’s historic metropolis in Galicia, Spain, it has, over the decades, garnered both cultural and spiritual significance.
The open-air venue was originally a meeting center for weary pilgrims on a voyage to the venerated Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. But today, it is heavily frequented for entertainment performances, as the verdant environment has played host to some of the world’s most renowned music industry names like Ed Sheeran, Milky Chance, and Marshmello.
Monte do Gozo translates to “Hill of joy,” making it a fitting name for a place where pilgrims flock for peace, reflection, and rejuvenation. From an elevated vantage point, visitors are treated with an unmatched panoramic view of cathedral spires. In its first year, it hosted the Bruce Springsteen, Other Band tour, The Rolling Stones, and the Xacobeo Festival.
Throughout history, Monte do Gozo has been the second most referenced place on the Camino, coming behind only the Cathedral. It is not just a stage for performances but a sanctuary for legends, miracles, and centuries-old traditions.
One of the most prominent upcoming events in the space is the O Gozo Festival, which typically features music, rock, and pop artists. This edition, to be held on Saturday, 06 July 2024, will be graced by Ed Sheeran, Bomba Estereo, and Artistas in Santiago de Compostela.
Monte do Gozo will also host O Son do Camiño on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, the most popular cultural event in Galicia. In its billing features are numerous local and global acts, many of whom perform for the first time in Galicia.
Since it is fundamentally an outdoor pilgrimage site, as opposed to an arena, stadium, or acts theater, it does not have a traditional seating designation. Rather, users find seats in various areas based on preferences and bench availability. Check out the detailed seating chart of Monte do Gozo on TicketX for a clearer view.
Visitors can get to the center via public transportation or by driving their cars. If you are coming in with your ride, the complex, located at 15820 Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña, has 216 free parking spaces for cars and 32 for buses.
A prevalent choice is parking within the city confines of Santiago de Compostela, situated proximate to the base of the hill.
Getting there via public transport
Visitors can utilize public transportation options, including buses and taxis, which offer routes from Santiago de Compostela to Monte do Gozo. Plus, those arriving in Santiago de Compostela by train can access it via local bus services or stationed taxis at the train station.
