Boy Harsher is an American darkwave and electropop duo formed in Savannah, Georgia, in 2013, consisting of vocalist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller. Both coming from a background in film, the two began as a project called Teen Dreamz in 2013, with Matthews performing spoken word pieces over Muller's live musical score, before renaming themselves Boy Harsher in early 2014. The duo released their home-recorded debut EP Lesser Man in 2014 before moving to Northampton, Massachusetts, where they recorded their debut album Yr Body Is Nothing, released on DKA Records in 2016. Known for minimal beats, grinding synths, and Matthews's sensual, dynamic vocals exploring themes of desire, fantasy, and loneliness, Boy Harsher have built a devoted cult following through sold-out tours and limited vinyl pressings. Their underground hit "Pain" became one of the most celebrated songs in contemporary darkwave and appeared in the 2022 horror film Terrifier 2. Their second album Careful followed in 2019, and in 2022 the duo wrote, produced, and scored the original soundtrack to their short horror film The Runner. Boy Harsher runs their own Nude Club imprint and has released music through Sacred Bones Records.
