Citizen is a rock band that formed in 2009, hailing from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. They have released five studio albums and are a part of the fourth wave of emo. Critics say the band is one fans can grow up with instead of growing out of. The members came together after the drummer left his previous metalcore band and began a new one. They had a large local and regional following in their early years and they released their first demo shortly after gathering. Their first show occurred in 2010 when they opened for Set Your Goals. They got signed to a label and released their first EP the next year. Their studio album followed in 2013. Their music is described as emo pop, indie rock, post-hardcore, and soft grunge. Citizen says they are a rock band, but says people have the right to think of them as any genre they want.
