The band's name was inspired by a defunct film project created by Cain's brother Brian. Their breakthrough came with Commit This to Memory (June 7, 2005), produced by Blink-182's Mark Hoppus after he befriended the band on tour, which peaked at number two on Billboard's Independent Albums chart and sold over 500,000 copies, led by the gold-certified single "Everything Is Alright." Subsequent albums include Even If It Kills Me (2007), My Dinosaur Life (2010, Columbia Records), Go (2012), and Panic Stations (2015). The band went on hiatus in 2016 following a farewell tour and reunited in 2019, releasing their seventh album in 2025.
