About Riverdance

Riverdance is a theatrical show celebrating traditional Irish music and dance, with a score composed by Bill Whelan. It originated as a seven-minute interval act during the Eurovision Song Contest on April 30, 1994, in Dublin, featuring Irish dancing champions Michael Flatley and Jean Butler alongside the vocal ensemble Anuna. The performance became an instant sensation, and producers Moya Doherty and John McColgan expanded it into a full-length stage show, which opened at the Point Theatre in Dublin on February 9, 1995, to sold-out crowds. The show went on to conquer stages worldwide, including a triumphant debut at Radio City Music Hall in New York in 1996. Bill Whelan received a Grammy Award for the recording in 1997, and Riverdance continues to tour globally to this day.
