Starset is an American rock band formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 2013 by vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Dustin Bates, who holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from Ohio University. The band's current lineup consists of Bates alongside bassist and keyboardist Ron DeChant, guitarist Brock Richards, drummer Adam Gilbert, violinist and keyboardist Siobhán Richards, cellist Zuzana Engererova, and guitarist Cory Juba. Known for a cinematic sound that blends alternative rock, electronic rock, and orchestral elements, Starset constructs an elaborate science fiction narrative universe across their albums, novels, and short films. Their debut album Transmissions was released on July 8, 2014, producing the viral single "My Demons," which surpassed 280 million YouTube views.
