About Toronto Tempo
Toronto Tempo is a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, competing in the WNBA as the league's first franchise outside the United States. Owned and operated by Kilmer Sports Ventures under Larry Tanenbaum, the team was awarded an expansion franchise in May 2024 and began play in the 2026 season. The name was chosen through a public engagement program that received over 10,000 submissions, with the name reflecting the rhythm and pace of both Toronto and the game of basketball. The ownership group includes notable figures such as Serena Williams, Lilly Singh, Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, Geoff Molson, and former Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri. Sandy Brondello, who previously won championships with the Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty, was hired as the team's first head coach in November 2025. The team plays its home games at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, with select games also held in Vancouver and Montreal.
