On March 4, 2004, Jimmy Rollins hit the first-ever home run for the Philadelphia Phillies at their new spring training center, Baycare Ballpark. Located in Clearwater, Florida, Baycare Ballpark is also the proud home of the Minor League Baseball team of the Florida State League, the Clearwater Thrashers.
In the past years, the naming rights to the ballpark have been passed down to multiple custodians. In the beginning, it was called the Bright House Networks Field or simply the Bright House Field. Later, in 2017, it was called the Spectrum Field before it was finally named the Baycare Ballpark in 2021.
The Baycare Ballpark is, first and foremost, a spring training stadium. The games the ballpark hosts happen during the preseason in Major League Baseball. During this season, players take the opportunity to practice ahead of the competitive season. The Philadelphia Phillies belong to the Grapefruit League, one of the two unofficial preseason leagues. Grapefruit League teams are located in the East Coast states, and all spring training games are played across different stadiums in Florida.
