Originally constructed to host ice hockey events for the 2002 Winter Olympics, the 12,600-seat arena has a rich history of hosting significant events since its opening in 1997. It is notably the home of the Utah Grizzlies (ECHL) and the Salt Lake City Stars (NBA G-League), highlighting its importance in the local sports community. The Maverik Center's significance was further underscored during the 2002 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, where it served as the main venue for ice hockey and ice sledge hockey events, respectively, showcasing its capability to accommodate large-scale international competitions. The venue underwent a rebranding in 2010 through a partnership with Maverik, Inc., enhancing its appeal.
