Home Teams: Penn Quakers (NCAA College Basketball)
Constructed in Philadelphia way back in 1927 with a gorgeous design and named for the athletic gymnasiums of Ancient Rome and Greece, the Palestra offers visitors a step back into history. When it was built, the Palestra was actually one of the largest arenas in the world and has been credited with playing a key role in turning basketball into the game that it is today (watch the ESPN documentary "The Palestra: Cathedral of Basketball" to learn more). The Palestra has been home to the Penn Quakers basketball teams ever since it opened and also hosted the Temple Owls for nearly 30 years. The Quakers have been fairly regular participants in the NCAA March Madness postseason tournament through the decades, though they haven’t reached the Sweet 16 since 1979 (when they actually reached the Final Four only to lose to Magic Johnson’s Michigan State Spartans).
Penn Quakers basketball games are very popular, though perhaps more so for the Palestra itself than the team itself these days. To find the cheapest tickets to Penn Quakers home games or other events at the Palestra, check the TicketX listings on this page and compare seating options using our helpful TicketX seating chart. You can purchase tickets with the lowest commission fees from TicketX with just one click!
The Palestra offers a range of different seating options to visitors, including courtside seats and baseline seats, as well as plenty of general admission seating.
Visitors can access the Palestra via public transportation or driving their own vehicle.
Philadelphia’s SEPTA Regional Rail system or local buses can get you to the Palestra. You could also take a taxi or ride-share to the venue.
Driving to the Palestra in your own vehicle is straightforward. Just be sure to leave enough time to negotiate Philadelphia traffic and get parked. Visit the Penn Athletics website for maps and driving directions.
Yes, public parking can be found near the Palestra in Penn Museum garage and Penn Park. Check the Penn Athletics website for more details on parking options.
Parking on basketball game days costs $15 (prices subject to change). Go to the Penn Athletics website to confirm parking prices.
