Penn Quakers Basketball

The Penn Quakers, who play in the illustrious Ivy League, have been fairly regular participants in the NCAA March Madness postseason tournament through the decades, though they have struggled to get past the first round. The Quakers‘ last appearance in the Sweet 16 was back in 1979, though they made the most of it, pushing through two more games to get to the Final Four, only to fall to Magic Johnson’s Michigan State Spartans. Since their most recent conference win (2018) and appearance in March Madness, the Quakers have struggled to make an impact, so their fans will be hoping that 2024 will mark a return to form for the team.

Are Penn Quakers basketball games exciting?

A trip to see the Penn Quakers basketball team in action is worth it for the venue alone. Constructed with a gorgeous design, named for the athletic gymnasiums of Ancient Rome and Greece, the Palestra was actually one of the largest arenas in the world when it was built way back in 1927. The Palestra has been credited with playing a key role in transforming basketball into the game that it is today (check out the ESPN documentary "The Palestra: Cathedral of Basketball" to learn more). The Quakers student section, the Red & Blue Crew, is always on hand to cheer on the team.
