Home Teams: Utah Utes (NCAA College Basketball)
A fixture on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City since 1969, the Jon M. Huntsman Center has been home to the Utah Utes men’s and women’s basketball teams, along with its women’s volleyball and gymnastics teams, for over half a century. The Utes men’s basketball team has historically been one of the top basketball programs in the western United States, qualifying for 29 NCAA March Madness postseason basketball tournaments in which they have appeared in the Sweet 16 on 16 occasions and the Elite 8 on 11. The team has cracked the Final Four on 4 occasions, winning the tournament way back in 1944 and narrowly missing out on a second title in 1998 when they lost to the Kentucky Wildcats in the NCAA championship final by a score of 78–69. The Utes basketball team is a huge point of pride in Salt Lake City, drawing in thousands of fans clad in red to “flash the U” in support of their team. As well as Utes basketball games, the Jon M. Huntsman Center has also hosted various rounds of the NCAA March Madness tournament in previous years, as well as exhibition games by the city’s Utah Jazz of the NBA. Concerts are also held at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on a fairly regular basis. Hungry visitors will find many delicious snacks at the concessions of the Jon M. Huntsman Center, including burgers, nachos, pizza, and ice cream (alcohol is prohibited). If you’re in the market for some Utes merchandise, you can check out the shops and kiosks at the Jon M. Huntsman Center or around campus.
