Capacity: 8,400
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Opened: 1936 (first opened in 2015 as a concert venue/events center)
The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota is the most historic and iconic building in the twin cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, hailing back to the 1930s when it was constructed to hold armaments and equipment for the Minnesota National Guard. At the time, it was the most expensive building ever constructed in Minnesota. In the post-war era, the Armory was also used for concerts, political debates and conventions, and sporting events (including several large boxing matches). It was even used as the home of the Minneapolis Lakers of the fledgling NBA from 1947-1959. In the 1980s, an attempt was made to knock down the Armory to build a prison, but because it was protected as a historic landmark, this was not allowed and it became, rather ingloriously, a parkade for a time. Fortunately, the building was purchased in 2015 and transformed into its current incarnation: a wonderful concert/event venue capable of hosting up to 8,400 spectators. Renovations were finished by January 2018, when the Armory opened to celebrate several events leading up to Super Bowl LII (hosted in Minneapolis). In terms of concerts, the venue has hosted some of the most iconic performers of all time, including Prince, who shot his music video for “1999” there, and Aerosmith, who shot their “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” music video there too. Since 2018, the venue has hosted stars like Avril Lavigne, Bryson Tiller, Steve Aoki, Wiz Khalifa, Kehlani, Carly Rae Jepsen, and many more. Upcoming concerts in 2024 include Ganja White Night, Megan Moroney, Jamie Xx, Teddy Swims, and Chief Keef as well as three consecutive comedy shows with stand-up legend Kevin Hart. New events are scheduled all the time, so be sure to keep checking back on TicketX for updates on exciting new concerts, comedy shows, and other events at The Armory in Minneapolis.
