In front of the largest TV audience ever to watch a college basketball game, the Spartans defeated the favored Sycamores 75–64 to win their first NCAA title with Magic selected as player of the tournament (he would leave university later that year to go pro with the Los Angeles Lakers, with whom he immediately won an NBA title!). The 1999-2000 Spartans team would repeat this feat when they bested the Florida Gators 89-76 to bring Michigan State its second NCAA title. As well as the legendary Magic, other top Spartans players went on to star in the NBA, including Zach Randolph, Jason Richardson, Steve Smith, and Draymond Green.
