Agua Caliente Casino and Hotel was a renowned resort that operated from 1928 to 1935 near Tijuana, Mexico, becoming a hotspot for wealthy Americans and Hollywood celebrities due to its proximity to California where gambling and alcohol were prohibited. Designed by Wayne McAllister, the resort was an architectural blend of Mexican colonial, California mission, and neo-Moorish styles. It featured luxurious amenities including a 500-room hotel, casino, health spa, Olympic-size swimming pool, golf course, and the largest race tracks for horse and greyhound racing. Despite its closure in 1935 due to Mexico's gambling ban, the legacy of Agua Caliente endures with preserved elements like the minaret, spa building, and golf course. Today, it continues to operate as part of the Casino Caliente chain, with the original racetrack still in use.
