Vulfpeck is an American funk band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2011, consisting of Jack Stratton (multi-instrumentalist, bandleader), Joe Dart (bass), Theo Katzman (drums, guitar, vocals), and Woody Goss (keyboards). The four members met while studying in the jazz program at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Operating entirely independently through their own Vulf Records imprint without a traditional record label or manager, Vulfpeck built a devoted global following through DIY releases and viral YouTube videos. In 2014 the band released Sleepify, a silent ten-track album on Spotify designed to exploit a loophole in the platform's royalty payments, earning enough streaming revenue to fund a free tour. Their debut studio album Thrill of the Arts was released in 2015, followed by The Beautiful Game (2016), Mr. Finish Line (2017), Hill Climber (2018), The Joy of Music, the Job of Real Estate (2020), Schvitz (2022), and Clarity of Cal (2025). In 2019, Vulfpeck sold out Madison Square Garden as an independent act, one of the first times the venue had been sold out by an artist without major label support. The band is also known for their supergroup offshoot The Fearless Flyers, featuring Joe Dart, guitarist Cory Wong, guitarist Mark Lettieri, and drummer Nate Smith.
