Alabama Shakes is an American rock band formed in 2009 in Athens, Alabama, consisting of lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, and bassist Zac Cockrell. Originally called The Shakes, the band built a following through relentless touring across the southeastern United States before signing with ATO Records. Their debut album Boys & Girls (2012) earned critical acclaim and multiple Grammy nominations, while their sophomore record Sound & Color (2015) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and won three Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Song for "Don't Wanna Fight." Known for Howard's powerful vocals and electrifying stage presence, the band went on hiatus in 2018 before reuniting in 2025 as a trio, releasing new music and embarking on a reunion tour.
