Galactic came together in 1994 under the name Galactic Prophylactic as an octet but scaled back to a sextet soon after. The band started with childhood friends who moved to New Orleans to go to college together but instead fell in love with the local funk bands. They have been releasing music regularly since 1996. Their unique sound comes from a mixture of electronic, blues, funk, rock, hip-hop, jazz, and many other styles. When they tour, they often invite guests from New Orleans to perform with them on stage.
