Where will the 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals be taking place?

The 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals will be split between the two home venues of the two teams participating (the two winners of the NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals). Because the maximum number of games in the 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals is an odd number at 7, the team with the better 2023-2024 NBA regular season will host 4 games while their opponents will host 3 games. The sequence is 2-2-1-1-1, with 2 games played at the top seed’s home venue, followed by 2 at the opponents’ home venue, Game 5 back at the top seed’s venue (if necessary), Game 6 at the opponents’ venue (if necessary), and Game 7 at the top seed’s venue (if necessary).

Which NBA teams will be playing in the 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals? When will we know which teams will be playing in the 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals?

Because the best 8 teams from each Conference (Eastern and Western) qualify for the NBA Playoffs, some teams have already mathematically booked their place either in the 2024 NBA Playoffs or Play-In Tournament. Other teams are still in contention for one of the final spots in the Playoffs or Play-In Tournament (while others are already booking their holidays on a beach somewhere…). The Eastern Conference playoff picture is already basically set, though some teams may still change in terms of seeding before the 2023-2024 NBA regular season ends on April 14.

How do the NBA Eastern Conference Finals work? What is the format of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals?

The NBA Eastern Conference Finals are part of the third round of the NBA Playoffs, contested between the two winners of the NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals. The winner of the Eastern Conference Finals progresses to the NBA Finals to face the winners of the NBA Western Conference Finals. Both Conference Finals are contested as best of seven series, which means that a team requires 4 victories to progress to the NBA Championship, so each NBA Conference Finals series lasts between 4 games (a sweep) and 7 games. There is nothing as intense as a Game Seven decider!

Any NBA Conference Finals game that ends in a tie after four quarters will go into overtime. All overtime periods in the NBA Playoffs last five minutes, with the team ahead at the buzzer winning the game. If the score is still tied, the game goes into a second overtime period. The drama!

Who will win the 2024 NBA Eastern Conference Finals?

In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics have been incredibly dominant and are most people’s pick to make the NBA Finals, though that’s also what everyone said in 2023 and it didn’t happen. In with a good chance as well are the Milwaukee Bucks, who had a disappointing First Round exit in 2023, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, though the Miami Heat will fancy themselves for a deep playoff run again this year.

Who are the players to watch in the 2024 NBA Playoffs?

Of course, when it comes to the 2024 NBA Playoffs, every team will have exciting star players to watch. For a shortlist from around the league, however, here are just a few to keep your eye on. Top scorers include Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, while players such as the Sacramento Kings’ Domantas Sabonis, the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, and the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert. And of course, though his Los Angeles Lakers will have to qualify via the Play-In Tournament, only a fool would completely write off LeBron James in what could be his final season. All that said, part of the fun of the Playoffs is the legends that it creates out of previously unknown or underappreciated players? Who will step up this year? What is the history of the NBA Playoffs?

The NBA Playoffs began in the late 1940s with the merger of the BAA and NBL, with its format gradually evolving towards the format that exists today. The Play-In Tournament preceding the main NBA Playoffs was introduced in 2021. Because of the Eastern-Western Conference system, many incredible playoff rivalries have developed over the years in the NBA (particularly in the 1980s and 90s when divisional playoff rounds led to the same teams playing one another almost every year!). For those interested in the history of the NBA Playoffs, a trip to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA is a must!

Which teams have the best records in the NBA Playoffs?

There are currently two teams tied for the most NBA Championships, the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, who have each won 17 titles as of 2023 (several against one another!). Both teams will be desperate to claim that 18th title to take sole possession of the all-time lead. The NBA has also long been famous for its dynasties, where certain teams rise to the top and dominate for a period of time. While the Celtics may have had the longest dynasty in the league’s earliest years, the most memorable dynasty is probably that of the Chicago Bulls with their run of 6 NBA Championships in 8 years (with two “three-peats”) during the height of Michael Jordan’s power in the 1990s. A close second might be Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal’s Los Angeles Lakers in the early 2000s, followed by the Golden State Warriors in recent years, who have won 4 titles since 2015, three of them against the Cleveland Cavaliers in one of the greatest NBA Finals rivalries. As the penultimate step towards ultimate glory, the NBA Eastern Conference Finals often serve up some of the most dramatic games in the Playoffs, as the two teams involved strive to become Eastern Conference Champions earn their place in the NBA Finals.
